Every year, retail stores across the United States embark on massive merchandise liquidation events, offering an abundance of brand-new, unopened products. Liquidation merchandise encompasses customer returns, shelf pulls, overstock items, seasonal goods, and more. These retail giants bundle these items onto pallets and sell them to liquidation suppliers at incredibly discounted rates. These suppliers, in turn, meticulously categorize the merchandise and make liquidation pallets and truckloads available to resellers.

Resellers are aware of the advantages of purchasing liquidation merchandise. Acquiring pallets of liquidation goods allows them to amass significant inventory while keeping costs in check. This cost-effectiveness is then passed on to their customers, greatly enhancing the likelihood of sales, repeat business, and referrals.

For newcomers to the world of reselling and those less acquainted with liquidation products, selecting the optimal method to market these goods can be perplexing. Here, we outline the foremost options for reselling liquidation merchandise. It’s crucial to grasp that no single choice is universally applicable to every vendor. Resellers should conduct a thorough analysis of their objectives before selecting a sales platform.

  1. Online Sales:

Many resellers prefer to market their products online, utilizing their e-commerce websites, national e-commerce platforms, or online auctions.
Online sales offer resellers an efficient way to reach a wide audience swiftly, eliminating the need for customers to visit a physical location.
Selling liquidation items online removes geographical constraints and can even introduce an element of excitement through online auctions, potentially boosting profit margins.

  1. Open-Air Market Sales:

Another popular avenue is selling merchandise through open-air markets, particularly appealing to resellers targeting local customers.
The acquisition of liquidation merchandise enables resellers to source high-quality products at reduced prices, making open-air markets an attractive option.

  1. Brick-and-Mortar Stores:

For resellers aspiring to expand their operations, opening a physical brick-and-mortar store can be a strategic move.
Establishing a physical presence enhances brand recognition within local communities and can be further optimized by purchasing liquidation merchandise by the truckload, ensuring consistent inventory and competitive pricing.
Trust Liquidation Map to guide you through the maze of liquidation pallet companies, providing the resources and insights you need to make informed decisions in the world of liquidation merchandise.

Looking into liquidation for 2023 and what is to come. The National Retail Federation recently put out it’s report for 2022. Lets dive into some of the stats from 2022 and see what we might expect for 2023.

Even though online and retail sale have increased year over year, retail returns have basically remained flat in 2022 and 2021 around 16.5% and the number for total returns in 2022 is $816B.

Of that $816B, some key take aways from that number that should be consider when it comes to the liquidation industry are that 25% or $204B annually go straight to landfills each year. Which equates to about 5 billion pounds.

$816B is now $612B.

10% or roughly $85B are fraudulent returns.

$612B is now $527B.

On average 20% of returns are non usable or salvage products- These products are broken but could be broken down and sold as parts. (Most people wont go to this extream but there is money here)

$527B is now $422B

So that leaves the following across the major categories.

Apparel12.2%$51,495,760,800.00
Auto Parts19.4%$81,886,701,600.00
Beauty4.3%$18,150,145,200.00
Department Stores11.4%$48,118,989,600.00
Drug/Pharmacies1.6%$6,753,542,400.00
Footwear9.1%$38,410,772,400.00
Hard Goods3.8%$16,039,663,200.00
Home Improvement11.5%$48,541,086,000.00
Housewares11.5%$48,541,086,000.00
Sporting Goods7.6%$32,079,326,400.00

Now this is where it gets interesting.

So if there $422B dollars worth of product that actually makes it to the secondary market and can be resold. Now you have to take into account, all the contract holders that are processing this product for their own E-commerce or retail sales.

Liquidation.com who mentioned that they were getting into more individual sales.
Optoro who owns Blinq and who partnered with Ebay in the recent past.
Essex with all there bargain hunt stores
Excess limited who has been open about there online retail presence
Complete liquidators with their retail stores
Midwest Service and supply has a retail presence.

That is just to name a few, there are countless other contract holders and non contract holders that buy blocks of loads and process for retail and ecommerce and sell off the products they do not want or cannot sell by the truckload.

So there is not as much inventory as people think and that inventory may not be as valuable as people think either by the time it flows through the supply chain.

Most Retail chains dumped their inventory in 2022 flooding the market with product to take their COVID losses. Moving into 2023 and a looming recession and high inflation most retailers have scaled down inventory.

2023 will be interesting as consumer spending may not slow down due to consumer spending behavior. Which means Ecommerce and multi channel selling will make finding cheaper items easier for consumers to find better deals on everyday products.

Liquidation companies with strong ecommerce presence will most likely do well. Liquidation companies selling in bulk like wholesale and liquidation pallet companies will do well as long as they can keep inventory cost down as supply shrinks as demand rises.

Resellers that continue to grow there online footprint with market places like eBay, Mecari, Poshmark and FB Market Place will continue to grow as reselling has becoming one of these easiest side hustles to make extra cash.

In closing, the revolving door in the liquidation is huge. Every year new companies enter and companies shut down so finding quality loads will continue to be the #1 sourcing challenge for liquidation companies like Bin Stores that are 1 dimensional and wanting quality HPC loads. The evolution of these stores will require a multi pillar revenue stream to remain profitable and relevant.

If you are looking for warehouses where you can find product to buy low and sell high. Here is a list of companies that sell liquidation merchandise in bulk for resellers. You can also check out our Liquidation Map to find Bin stores near you, Liquidation Pallet sellers near you, amazon sellers near you, liquidation stores near you and more. liquidationmap.com

What if I told you that you could make thousands of dollars by reselling the things people return to big box stores like Amazon, Wayfair, Target, Walmart, and Best Buy on Seattle Craigslist?

Yeah, that’s right! These big box stores liquidate truckloads of goods an hour to liquidators: businesses set up regionally that take all these unwanted items and sell them for pennies on the dollar. Often liquidated merchandise are scratch and dents, marked or bent boxes, customer returns, overstock, shelf-pulls to make room for seasonal displays, or unwanted seasonal items that weren’t sold. These customer returns are being used to build a great source of steady revenue. There’s a business model for Seattle Craigslist using liquidation that works!

You probably have a lot of questions about how to make money with liquidation stock pallets. I’m Chris Traylor, the founder and owner of Liquidation Map, and I’m here to tell you how it works, and how to make this kind of living… because I’ve done it.

Craigslist Seattle – Getting Customers In Front of Your Products

The hardest part of making any business is getting your products in front of customers. It’s good to think of this as a math game. Generally speaking, most of the people who search for things to buy are window shopping: they’re not ready to actually shell out the cash. Now think about everything you know about ecommerce. Millions of people a month use amazon.com to buy products… so everybody want’s to register on amazon.com to sell products. Amazon is a platform providing the eyes to your products, and takes a cut of your sale for the privelege.

How many people use Craigslist Seattle? 1.3 MILLION. That’s right, MILLION. Sure, it’s not as much as Amazon. But you don’t need to have a business tax number to register: in fact, it’s so easy to post listings that you could do it in your sleep. Think about all the rental complexes and small businesses who advertise on Craigslist. They know that even though it looks cheap, their ads are getting seen.

Here’s the proof:

craigslist seattle

So, Craigslist is where you want to sell. It’s easy to make postings, free, and gets a TON of traffic. Other similar but less old websites like letsgo.com and Facebook marketplace are also good spots to market your products, but are just likely to have a fraction of the eyes.

But what is it that you sell? How do you use this to turn a profit? That’s where Liquidation comes in.

Source High Quality Liquidation Locally

Liquidation is where the Big Box Retailers such as Target, Walmart, Amazon and more liquidate there overstock, shelf pulls, warehouse damages and customer returns to companies that then make this inventory available to the public through the secondary market.

The most common liquidation business you will find are Bin Stores, where you can buy individual items way below retail. This will allow you to go and pick the items you want to resell by the piece. Another common place to buy liquidation merchandise is Liquidation Pallet warehouses.

Liquidation Pallet warehouses is where you can go and look at pallets stacked with liquidation product. Customer return pallets can be the biggest winners and biggest losers as Customer returns can have lots of used and damaged items but are usually sold as the cheapest pallets. Which creates the biggest chance of making more money. Think of customer returns pallets like a Scratch off lottery ticket. Some are winners and some are losers.

If you are looking to buy a lot of product at really great discounts. Buying liquidation Truckloads is where you have some of the best opportunity to make money. You will need space and a way to unload a semi though. Most companies will not deliver to a residential address so keep that in mind.

Sort Your Pallet of Products

Upon receiving your pallet, you’ll need to inspect and catalog it.

Make sure you have a clear surface to store and sort things. It’s important to be efficient when selling liquidation pallets. Your online liquidation business depends on identifying and organizing the items.

Ask these questions while inspecting each item:

  • What’s the condition of the packaging?
  • What’s the condition of the products?
  • Has the product been discontinued?
  • Does the product have a brand name or is it a knockoff?
  • Is there a warranty from the manufacturer?

You might find it helpful to have a junk pile as you go through the pallet. These are the things that are too damaged or defective. Don’t forget electronics – some parts and components might be worth reselling, even if others are damaged.

Make sure to snap at least 5 good pictures of every item worth reselling in this stage to save time. Remember to take pictures that are clear, and where the product takes up as much space in the photo as possible. Craigslist pictures are small on mobile, so making your product bigger actually helps to increase sales a little bit.

Set Your Price on Craigslist So You Actually Turn A Profit

Most hustlers doing side gigs like this aren’t great at math, and that causes a lot of regrettable early failures for people doing this on a shoe string budget. The first thing you should do is start recording the time you spend working on this. And then assign yourself a wage value, let’s just say $15 to start.

Calculate this as a cost. Calculate the cost of your gas to go visit pallet liquidation places. Add those costs up, those are your business expenses. What you don’t want to do is get into a cycle where you’re making cash, but spending a lot of time and man hours making that cash. Keeping track of these things will help you in the long run make better decisions.

When you have your liquidated items, break down your pallet and start a spreadsheet. Divide the cost of your pallet by all the items in it, so you have an idea of what your per-item cost is. Always keep track of the cost of your products. But you should also add what the MSRP of the item is next to the cost and name of the product. Then, list it on Craigslist. Make sure the cost you are selling it for is UNDER the MSRP and worth someone’s gas price and other expenses to pick it up. If you have a bunch of little things, like toys, group them together in bundles or boxes to make the savings point more appealing to buyers on Craigslist.

Then, record your sale price after the products are picked up. After 2 or 3 pallets, you will begin to notice a trend: some products make way bigger margins than others. This is usually related to where you live and where you do your craigslist handoffs (by the way – never invite people to your house to pick up items!). The people who live in your nearby area are the most likely to buy from you. Cater to their tastes, and find more of the kinds of items you make high margins on.

When you first begin, you may make only a few hundred bucks on your first pallet. And it’s a lot of work to break it down, sit in your garage with your laptop to find the MSRP of EVERY single item. And of course, part of your pallets will all be junk and unsellable. But if you have done a very good job picking your liquidation supplier, you will always make money. You start to really see your best returns after optimizing your second and third pallets.

Have you ever thought about what takes place to all the merchandise that gets sent back to Amazon.com?
What about the products that get damaged by Amazon or freight carriers before getting to the customer or overstock, mislabeled, or overstock from FBA sellers as well as third-party resellers.

Amazon High Piece Count Pallets

Amazon.com does try to market some use and open box products in their Amazon.com Stockroom, however a lot of merchandise becomes “Amazon Liquidation Restore” that is liquidated to Recyclers, Reverse Logistics companies and other small liquidators. These are the people that sell this merchandise to the public for resellers to purchase.

These resellers might then sell these goods at online marketplaces or offline where consumers can acquire brand name items for a fraction of the original market price

If you are looking for a list of Amazon liquidation store near you, than you have come to the right place. Liquidationmap.com is the largest most comprehensive liquidation and wholesale directory available.

Prior to visiting a Amazon liquidation warehouse salvage store near you, let me offer you a couple of pointers on how to find Amazon.com salvage products at a liquidation shop.

The most effective way to identify liquidation products is by the stickers.

Amazon Liquidation Store LPN Sticker
Amazon LPN Sticker

Amazon returns will have white rectangle-shaped sticker with a barcode as well as letters and also numbers starting with “LPN” like the ones revealed above, you’ll absolutely know the thing is an Amazon salvage item.

Amazon.com LPN means “Certificate Plate Number” and also is a special identifier code utilized by Amazon.com FBA (Met by Amazon.com) to track supply stock systems within Amazon’s warehouses.

The other main sticker you want to be on the lookout for is Amazon FC or Fulfillment Center products stickers. These are orange stickers as shown in the example above. These stickers represent new, overstock or warehouse damaged products that are being liquidated through the reverse logistics and recycle programs. These products have never been shipped out to a customer and returned so they will be likely be new or in like new condition.

Whether you’re a truckload liquidator mostly on their computer for work or actively in a warehouse or bin store moving product, you should remember how important self-care is… and how significant eating, and eating well, is on maintaining good energy and cognition levels.

We’ve noticed just how often people in liquidation and wholesale tend to skip meals while working, and we’re here to share some advice.

When you’re hard at work, moments of joy and success are interspersed with moments of confusion and, as a result, fatigue. That’s why it’s critical to pay attention to what you eat while you work – what you put in your body could mean the difference between perfect source code and choppy code full of errors.

Next time you find yourself yawning in the middle of the day, try snacks like Olyra Dark Chocolate High Protein Breakfast Sandwiches.

Jerky

Jerky contains a high amount of protein, which is most useful for athletes, but can be useful if you’re up all night working on a particularly challenging coding project. Choose turkey jerky rather than beef jerky for a healthier option.

Blueberries

The antioxidants found in blueberries help maintain your memory, making them a major brain food. Perhaps eating more blueberries will help you remember things better.

Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans

The best time to start drinking coffee is when you’re in your late teens, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your little caffeine boosts. Espresso beans will keep you awake, while the dark chocolate will do wonders for your memory and your mood.

Trail Mix

You don’t have to think about trail mix while you’re eating it; you just keep scooping more into your hands while watching TV. Trail mix can be purchased pre-made, but you can also make your own by using your favorite nuts, dried fruits, and chocolate.

Peanuts

Another snack that you can eat a lot of without realizing it is peanuts; but don’t worry about it. Nuts provide your body with natural oils, fats, and protein it needs, so there is no need to feel guilty about eating too much.

Banana Chips

Bananas contain vitamins and minerals that are important for brain function, and chips taste great. When you combine the two, you get a snack that keeps you coding and full at the same time.

Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds contain B vitamins that affect your mood and your brain’s cognitive functions. If you want to avoid the messy shells, you can also just purchase sunflower kernels.

Granola

You also need a certain amount of carbohydrates each day, along with protein and vitamins. Granola is an excellent source of carbohydrates and fiber for storing energy and avoiding sugar crashes, plus it usually comes in a variety of flavors.

Oh, and one more thing

Be sure to always hydrate before, during, and after you’re working on a coding project. Remember, even though you’re not outside, you need to stay hydrated. When a dehydrated person meets a bright screen with small letters scrolling up and down, the results are never good. Also, make sure you get 8 hours of sleep each night so that you’ll be well-prepared for the coding challenges that await you!

What if I told you that you could make thousands of dollars by reselling the things people return to big box stores like Amazon, Wayfair, Target, Walmart, and Best Buy on Houston Craigslist?

Yeah, that’s right! These big box stores liquidate truckloads of goods an hour to liquidators: businesses set up regionally that take all these unwanted items and sell them for pennies on the dollar. Often liquidated merchandise are scratch and dents, marked or bent boxes, customer returns, overstock, shelf-pulls to make room for seasonal displays, or unwanted seasonal items that weren’t sold. These customer returns are being used to build a great source of steady revenue. There’s a business model for Houston Craigslist using liquidation that works!

You probably have a lot of questions about how to make money with liquidation stock pallets. I’m Chris Traylor, the founder and owner of Liquidation Map, and I’m here to tell you how it works, and how to make this kind of living… because I’ve done it.

Craigslist Houston- Getting Customers In Front of Your Products

The hardest part of making any business is getting your products in front of customers. It’s good to think of this as a math game. Generally speaking, most of the people who search for things to buy are window shopping: they’re not ready to actually shell out the cash. Now think about everything you know about ecommerce. Millions of people a month use amazon.com to buy products… so everybody wants to register on amazon.com to sell products. Amazon is a platform providing the eyes to your products, and takes a cut of your sale for the privilege.

How many people use Craigslist Houston? 869,000, that number is per month..

You can buy liquidated merchandise by the piece, pallet or by the truckload. So when it comes to finding product to resell on Craigslist, the liquidation industry can be a gold mine.

Most of these places sell products in various conditions, New and customer returns are the most common. When buying customer returns. Be smart and shop wisely.

The post How to Get Started Buying Amazon Return Pallets appeared first on Liquidation Map.

]]>
As the world of labor and employment continues to evolve, many people have sought out unconventional methods for generating revenue. One emerging opportunity involves buying Amazon return pallets. Amazon return pallets are large wooden pallets filled with an assortment of items that were returned to Amazon.

A pallet may hold electronics from a specific seller, perhaps beauty supplies, or something else entirely. Many sellers will only sell new, unopened products, so selling returned merchandise by the pallet allows some cost to be recouped while passing the potential for profit on to the individual who purchases the pallet of returned goods. Though buying a large quantity of any product all at once may seem overwhelming and risky, the profit may be worth the trouble if approached with the proper mindset and preparation.

Your initial focus should be determining whether you will be a niche seller or plan to buy and sell items based on popular trends and the likelihood of profiting. What you decide to buy can determine whether you will face strict restrictions on that product type and where it can be sold. Next, you will want to select your method of selling the items, for example, if you plan to sell only on eBay or to branch out to other options such as flea markets, discount stores, or even a slightly more sophisticated method of exporting.

Once you have determined your supplier and method for selling, you can begin preparing for your first big buy. Now that you know what you want to buy and where you want to sell those items, you can determine where you will purchase your Amazon return pallets. Finally, with the knowledge you’ve gathered, you can buy your first pallet. Then you can begin selling your items through your desired method to generate a profit.

Determine Your Product Specialty

Before you can begin to profit from the sale of the items you purchase, you will need to determine whether you’ll have a marketing niche or will instead choose your products based on what is currently trending. Both methods can be profitable, and both have their drawbacks and benefits.

Choosing a niche can be an excellent option if you are a subject matter expert on a product or an avid user of a specific category of products. By specializing in a niche, you benefit from becoming more knowledgeable in the product you are selling. Specializing in a particular theme means many fewer inventoried items and a greater understanding of your product. This often means better knowledge of what’s an authentically good deal or even simply how to showcase a product to improve sales. Unfortunately, specialization’s benefits are a double-edged sword.

Specializing in one category means you are limited to that category and could miss significant opportunities simply because they’re outside of your chosen category. Additionally, depending on where you decide to sell your items, restrictions vary based on the product type. Amazon, for example, is much more strict on used products, especially regarding things such as handbags, clothing, and similar items. For this reason, you may also be limiting where your items can be sold if you decide to stick to a niche.

On the other hand, deciding to purchase items based on trends in popular culture is a great choice, especially if you are just getting started with selling Amazon return pallets. By choosing to follow trends, you can increase your likelihood of profitability, provided you can analyze them and know when to pull out. Additionally, having a variety of items means that you have the opportunity to sell those items in several different places because they all will fall into various categories.

On the downside, selling many different varieties of things means that you will be a master of none, as the old adage goes. In this sense, you will be much less familiar with the products you come across in your pallets. This translates into a higher likelihood that you will pass up a good deal, or overestimate the value of an item, simply due to lack of knowledge. However, despite this drawback, you can be successful if you approach trend selling with a well-mapped-out plan. It should be based on observed trends, such as how many items were purchased over time.

Choosing a Platform to Sell

Your next step will be to choose a platform on which to sell your merchandise. As indicated previously, specific platforms have distinct requirements, especially concerning particular goods. For this reason, you must research the forum you are choosing to ensure the items you intend to sell are permissible. The usual options if you prefer to sell online include creating your own personal website, selling through eBay, or selling on Amazon. Through the use of these options, you can sell just about any item you come across.

You may not want to go the usual online platform route, which is fine; there are many alternative avenues. One option is to rent space in a flea market and sell your items there. Another option is to establish channels for distributing to or owning your own discount store. Finally, you may choose to purchase items and then export them. Exporting goods requires several additional steps but will allow you to sell your goods in another country, meaning a possibly better market and a different set of risks.

Where to Buy Pallets

With all of the information that you’ve gathered, you can now hunt for the best deals on pallets that fit your parameters. The first and best option is to go in person to Liquidation warehouses to view and purchase pallets. You can find places near you on liquidationmap.com. We highly recommend this, as it allows you the opportunity to see with your eyes exactly what you are buying. Alternatively, you can buy pallets online through sites such as BStock.com, DirectLiquidation.com, and Liquidation.com. Care must be taken when purchasing pallets online and having them shipped to you. Check Better Business Reviews and do your due diligence and do not shop with your eyes. Buying online can be very risky. Read all details carefully before committing to buy.

Buying Your First Pallet

Whenever possible, learn the exact contents of your pallet when just beginning. There are options to purchase “mystery” pallets and the like, but this is a gamble and not worth tussling with on your first rodeo. If you do this do not spend what you cannot afford to lose. If you are purchasing your pallet online, make sure you have read the description in its entirety and have judged the profitability of the pallet based on the description and any available photographs or supporting documents. If possible, do research on the specific products on the pallet, such as a quick Amazon search to see customer reviews of the merchandise. For example, if you are considering buying a pallet of electronics by Zigzag ABC company, but you see on Amazon that they have primarily one-star reviews, you’ll want to steer clear of this type of merchandise.

Overall, purchasing Amazon return pallets can be profitable but takes a little bit of knowledge and you have to be willing to get your hands dirty. It not always easy. Once you determine what you want to sell, where you want to buy it from, and where you want to sell it, the process becomes relatively simple. Be sure to research in as great detail as possible when selecting a pallet, even if you purchase based on trending activity.

 As always, Be Smart and Shop wisely!!!!

Liquidation pallets businesses are gaining more and more entrepreneurs seeking a business opportunity nowadays.

But how exactly does this kind of business work? If you have been wondering how liquidation pallets come to market, you came to the right place.

Before we get started, you must get a picture of the liquidation process of a company as a whole.

Well, we all know how to return something, right? We walk to the return counter or, if we buy on the internet, or we get a return label and stick it back in the mail to get back our cash or store credit. Oh lets not forget those fancy new lockers you can drop the item off in. When an item is returned it is given a disposition by the asset  management.

The asset disposition of the item will determine where the goods will go. For example, if the item is unopened, it often times is returned to the shelf.

However, if it is open and unused, the item may go to a clearance rack and sold as open box item or could be sent it to liquidate, depending on the store.

The rest end up in one of the following other reerse logistics processes, Donation’s, Recycle/Destroy, RTV (Return to Vendor), or liquidate which is often reffered to as Store Returns.

The bottom line is companies have to find a way to resell or give another purpose for these returned goods. So let’s understand these processes better!

What Can Happen When We Return Goods?

As you can see, we have places where we could channel these products. Whether through Donation’s, Recycle/destroy, Returned to Vendor (RTV), or liquidation. Check some details about each channel:

  • Donation: it is precisely what it sounds like. Businesses’ have yearly donations they can max for tax credits. Nonprofits get most of this merchandise.
  • Recycle/Destroy merchandise: items with a disposition of recycle or destroyed. Some brands do not want their merchandise on the secondary market, so they elect to destroy it. Which equates to all overstock and returns being destroyed. Some of this merchandise can be recycled, going to a recycling company.
  • Returned to Vendor (RTV): this option is usually for manufacturers that have a process to reuse parts or pieces and want the merchandise back. They can use it as cost savings or refurbish the items and then sell them for a slightly lower cost than retail, or they may have a company that does it for them.
  • Liquidate: liquidation encompasses almost everything else. The items are collected at customer service and inspected. After that, all liquidate is either stacked on a pallet or thrown in a Gaylord. Then, it is sent to a return facility. The return facility deals with contracted companies where the merchandise is shipped.

The liquidate process is where liquidation programs begin at the store level and where things get interesting.

How Does The Liquidation Process Work?

So, now that you have a clear picture of the key elements of the possible ends of return goods, check how the liquidation pallet process works!

Basically, products get shipped to a companies that take Donations, a recycler, a reverse logistics company, a 3PL (third-party logistics), or a consumer that won a contract.

The focus here is on reverse logistics companies. These companies offer the retailers several services, including scanning to determine the value and manifesting, proposing recovery rates based on data collection, and warehousing and logistics services.

This is when programs where you can buy liquidation pallets are born. The reverse logistics companies do everything from selling raw merchandise to sorting and scanning of merchandise.

The ones that sort and scan do this for a couple of reasons. For example, so the retailer knows what value is on the load.

Then, the load becomes manifested and sold at a percentage of the scanned value. That value is based on the retail value or the manufactures MSRP.

However, these companies may inflate the pallet’s price in this process. This is a grey area where some larger companies can push the envelope of lying to you.

MSRP is the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. Which is not always what the item is retailed for. This is also referred to as list price.

As manufacturers sell to companies off the list price, this is what they base volume and buyer discounts on. This is big in the distribution side of retail.

Once upon a time, foreign companies used the U.S. distribution process to reach businesses. Not anymore, and more are trying to go direct to consumers and skipping the distribution process. However, it is still in place for the moment.

Common Programs to Buy Liquidation Pallets

The Reverse Logisitics companies create programs to disburse this merchandise. Some can be hard to move or too big for the average buyer, so they must get creative to push it downstream. Otherwise, they could have significant losses.

Here are some popular programs for this process:

  • Target GM (raw store returns);
  • Target DC (Distribution Center): new merchandise and warehouse damaged product;
  • Walmart GM (raw store returns);
  • Walmart Dot Com Retruns (raw store returns);
  • Walmart Dot Com DC (Distribution Center): new inventory and warehouse damaged products;);
  • Walmart DC (Distribution Center): new inventory and warehouse damaged products;
  • Walmart Apparel (new, overstock, and warehouse damages);
  • Kohls GM (sorted and scanned returns);
  • Kohls Categories (scanned and sorted new and returned merchandise);
  • Walmart Bikes (raw store returns, sorted and sold as a category);
  • Walmart Ride Ons (raw store returns, sorted and sold as a category);
  • Dollar General (New Merchandise, raw store returns and store change-outs;
  • Home Depot Turbo (contractors returns);
  • Home Depot Tools and Hardware (store returns);
  • Lowes (raw store returns);
  • Academy Sports (export only);
  • Dicks Sporting Goods (export only);
  • CVS (sorted and scanned): generally new merchandise/box damage; can find returns;
  • Lots of grocery stores.

There are more stores and ways to do it, like Amazon’s programs which we will cover at a later date, but these are some of the most frequently bought and sold. This is what truckload buyers, pallet warehouses, liquidation stores, auction houses, and e-commerce people buy.

But be careful: some companies buy this and act in one or more of the following ways:

They either sell what they buy raw or do their own merchandise processing to make unique programs marketed to the public (this where the term “cherry picker” comes from.)

The Cherry Picking process basically means that these buyers skim high-value products off the top, which can be great or not, depending on the perspective and transparency of the seller.

What we mean by that is that if you intend to process merchandise and then sell it, own that, be proud and stand behind your product and what your company does.

But don’t act like so many who say the product is raw or untouched when in fact, they’re processing the value out of loads, taking the higher value items, and selling them via other sales channels.

Lots of these loads are 20 thousand plus. So, skimming merchandise off the top is how the company gets a higher recovery for part of the load.

After that, they depreciate the rest of the load or break it up into multiple shipments, so the price point is more attractive to a larger buyer base.

Final Thoughts

10 years ago, Face book liquidation groups were not a thing, only a select few liquidation businesses had a Facebook page. If you had a FB page driving traffic to your liquidation business had never been easier.

Then one day FB decided to change its algorithm, so page owners now had to spend advertising dollars to reach the people that liked there fan page. This spawned FB liquidation groups, so now every liquidation business has their own group. Some only have a group. Why, because it allows businesses to reach a higher number of there group followers every time they posted, without having to spend advertising dollars.

Then one day someone started a FB group that allowed liquidation businesses to pay to post loads or product for sale. Their claim was that they would vet businesses so buyers would have a safe place to buy liquidation. Awesome right, started out as a great thing. Then like every good thing, it came to an end when they decided to start censoring what the buyers saw buy allowing other sellers to buy out there competitions spot.

No bull shit, that happens people. Now there are multiple Private groups that will let you post liquidation for sale if your willing to pay. Prices range from $800 to $1800 a year but you are only seeing what they want you to see. Not necessarily what or who is best for the consumer. Needless to say that spawned people to create public liquidations groups for people to post stuff for sale for free. Liquidation tends to always be racing each other to the bottom.

Now we have a large number of liquidation groups on FB. If your new to liquidation what do you do? Well most people go and join all of the liquidation groups. Which is fine, but how do you know what is real? Everyone is a persons name. Some people have business info in there profile but tons do not. As a consumer how do you know who is legit and who’s not?

If you have been around for a while, is not as confusing as it is for new comers. My questions is what’s the point in a public FB liquidation group if its full of fake FB profiles trying to scam buyers. How are the group owners dealing with this? Some don’t care others are proactively banning them as they find them. Good job to those who are trying to do something. Unfortunately, most admins only find out after someone has been scammed.

Just so I said it, not all FB liquidation groups are garbage. There are people that take this role seriously, so do not be offended if your working hard to make your group a safe place,  I am not referring to you. I am referring to the ones that think the job is to cumbersome to keep it up and keep it safe, so there group has scammers mixed in with the good ones. Pitiful. If your not willing to put in the work to keep a group safe, then you failed your community and you should not have one. If there to lazy to run a FB group, what does that say about there regular business. Just saying.

Moving on, with more and more sales moving to digital. Less personal contact is required. This is true for liquidation also. During the pandemic, pallet sellers were getting real creative to stay open. So online FB pallet sales and auctions came to be an acceptable thing. It wasn’t that long ago, most people wouldn’t consider buying a pallet online. They want to see and touch before they buy a pallet.

Decades of Bad BBB reviews on the easier to find pallet sites created that fear of buying online. I guess all the paid Pallet Unboxers on you tube have given the misconception that buying a pallet is mostly profitable. I call BS. Why buy a pallet online and ship it when there are so many small business pallet places within driving distance. With freight at all-time highs, your chances of the pallet being a winner is greatly reduced. If your new to liquidation I highly recommend going to see a couple before you buy. Don’t go blow your wad at once place either. Pallets can be deceiving if you shop with your eyes and not your brain.

Same goes for FB liquidation buying. In a sea of faces, you have no idea who is who. Shopping with your eyes can lead you to costly mistakes. Some of these public groups won’t let a businesses in, only people. Why? My guess is so they can create an environment where a truckload buyer can be subject to a double or triple broker fee. Just a guess but when you have people not business selling truckloads, it opens the door for anyone that can get access to a truckload list. Bam!!! You now have another 100 truckload a month seller.

I do not have an issue with brokers, I believe they have real value and there role can coexist with buying direct. Business is all about relationships. I cannot hate on brokers who have got there shit together and control product. Being direct can be an illusion. Going direct doesn’t matter if you cannot get what you want from the source. So we all just need to understand that is part of the game and its ok. Sometimes you have to play the game to get what you want  Just don’t over pay. Do some research and shop people. Always get 3 prices and ask lots of questions.

Generally speaking I like private FB groups better. Most are linked to a business, that you can go see and talk to on the phone and its not a What’s App number. Which is usually a dead give away they are not in the US. This is a easy Scam Red Flag indicator. I will save buying abroad for another time.

In a private group you can people watch and read comments and see what peoples experience is. In a public group, you ask if anyone has done business with someone, I see all these sellers and scammers responding. How do you know if someone is a actual customer for the reference. If they don’t tell you, you don’t. In a private group, you have a better picture of who your dealing with. Authenticity always gets my vote.

In closing pay attention, do not get lazy in the buying process. Trust your gut, impulsivity very rarely leads to profitability.

Be smart Shop wisely. LM

From the outside looking in liquidation looks awesome, as all people see is lots of cash changing hands, long lines to buy pallets or at the front door at bin stores. People have no idea, how hard and risky it can be starting a business in the liquidation industry, let alone growing a business in this industry on thin margins.

That is right, thin margins! The real money is at the individual item level. The resellers that buy smart and have a good e-commerce game and generally the big winners. That’s why there is such high turnover in the liquidation business at the pallet level and above. Pallet sales are about volume and playing the law of averages. If you don’t move high volume pallets. Pallet sale can be real Tuff.

That’s why it’s so important to be smart and shop wisely even for the liquidation sellers. People think pallets are risky and scary. Try buying a truckload. That’s why there are business that pray over the load before they cut the seal and open it. Sometimes, you get a load that has almost no value and then your stuck with a bunch of trash.
This is where the novice are often separated from the professionals. You have to be able to find the opportunity even in the garbage. If you can do that and keep in mind everything has a buyer, you just need to be creative on how to work the load and find the right buyers.

It can be done, There are people in liquidation that have a 100% sell through rate. That’s right 100% right down to the cardboard and wooden pallets. Nothing left. We should all aspire to be that methodical.
However, most only see the good, and complain about what they think is bad or trash. The average pallet or truckload buyer cannot see the opportunity cause they either lack imagination or they are lazy.
It always kill me when some complains they did not double or triple there money. Like that’s even reality. If that was the case everybody would be buying and selling liquidation.

We are buying and selling Big Box retailers Trash. That’s right, there trash. Liquidation is everything that was over bought, under sold, customer returned, vendor returned, items that have been recalled, out of date, or replaced by a new models. When they do store change outs, you can see store computers, pallet racks, gondolas everything on these loads. All of this has been summarized into New, Warehouse Damages, Shelfpulls, Online returns, in Store returns, and Salvage(BER) (Beyond Economic Repair).

These are the terms sellers use to cover there ass. Truth is they would not have to cover there ass if the information from the Retailers was more accurate. That will never happen as they are all greedy bastards and they can require a high recovery for terms that hold a higher value. So mix the trash in and tell them it’s store returns. I am sure they think we will never know. Well they are wrong. We know!

So when getting in liquidation, setting the right expectations is key. Doesn’t matter if your buying or selling. If your selling, in my opinion you have the obligation to set the right expectations for your buyers. Even if you have to educate the buyer. If your a seller and do not, then you are no better then all the scammers on FB and your time here will be short lived. If your buying, your expectations should be set based on your research. Hopefully you did some, if not, you probably bought a pallet off Face Book or TicTok and got cheap earbud instead.

Remember Liquidation is like buying a lottery ticket, not every pallet/load is a win. At the end of day your hoping for more wins then losses. So be smart and shop wisely.

If I live in Indiana and buy pallets or are looking to buy pallets. I would give Hoosier Wholesale Pallet Liquidators LLC. a shot. If this many people are willing to stand in the cold and the rain. They must be doing something right!
